The last 90 days of the year are seriously important. And I’m not just talking about the big holidays that we celebrate in November and December. The last 90 days are important because they set the tone for your New Year.
Most of us think that the last 90 days of the year is strictly a time to rest and enjoy the holidays. While some rest and enjoyment is good, the last 90 days of the year is an ideal time to set yourself up for success in the New Year.
Instead of coasting through the holidays, use the last 90 days of the year to get serious about your growth, set a new goal, and prepare your heart, mind and body for the New Year.
Benefits of investing in yourself
Making the choice to invest in yourself has loads of benefits. Especially when you invest in yourself at the end of the year. The work you put in at the end of the year jumpstarts your success in the New Year, increases your confidence and, most importantly, helps you achieve healthy growth.
Other benefits:
- Greater self-awareness
- Improved self-esteem
- More motivation
- Increased career satisfaction
- More harmony in relationships
Ending strong sets you up for success
A strong New Year starts long before January 1st. The work you put in from October to December has a much bigger influence on your New Year’s goals than you might think.
Usually, we arrive at the New Year a few pounds heavier than we’d like to be, exhausted from the Holiday season, and unmotivated to put in the hard work required to meet our goals. But not you. Not this year.
By taking advantage of the last 90 days of the year you can start your New Year off with a solid foundation. You can arrive at the New Year feeling refreshed, renewed, and eager to keep accelerating your growth.
Even a small success heading into the New Year will pay off leaps and bounds. Proving to yourself that you can and will put in the work to become a healthier version of yourself (whatever that might look like) is a major motivator and confidence boost!

More confidence, anyone?
Another benefit of taking advantage of the last 90 days of the year is major confidence!
Your confidence will soar as a result of pursuing growth in a challenging season. Pursuing growth despite the chaos of the Holiday season is proof to yourself and others that you value and prioritize your well-being, that you take your goals seriously, and that you can do hard things. And that kind of confidence impacts everything.
Prove to yourself that you can grow and achieve your goals even in hectic seasons. And take that confidence boost into the New Year!
A win in the last 90 days leads to more growth in the New Year
With new and improved confidence, imagine the kinds of goals you could set going forward. You won’t set the same old goals that you always do. Instead, you’ll feel empowered to set bigger, better, wilder goals for yourself. And in case it’s not obvious I’ll let you in on a little secret: your bigger, better wilder goals will lead to growth you didn’t even know was possible!
By taking advantage of the last 90 days of the year you are effectively moving the benchmark. The small or big win you take away from investing in your growth in the last 90 days provides an opportunity to set an even more ambitious goal in the New Year.
Year over year this habit will compound into major growth!
How to make the most of the last 90 days
I hope I’ve convinced you that pressing into the last 90 days of the year is worth it. Growth in the New Year starts with putting in the work right here, right now.
Here’s how you can make the most of the last 90 days:
- Reflect on the last 9 months – What has gone well that you can build off of? What hasn’t gone so well? How would you like to be better in these areas?
- Set a goal or two – Use the information from your reflection to set a fresh goal or two for the next 90 days. Note: limit yourself to 2 goals. Any more than 2 and you run the risk of getting overwhelmed.
- Find an accountability partner – Don’t go it alone! Pursue your goals and grow your community while you’re at it by enlisting the help of some accountability. Ask a friend you trust to regularly check in on your goal progress or invite them to join in on the goal!
Making the most of the last 90 days doesn’t have to be complicated. Simply commit to investing in your growth. Read a book or two, join a gym (before the New Year rush), start journaling. No matter how you choose to invest in yourself, remember, the work you do over the next 3 months will pay dividends when the New Year rolls around.
A final note
Making one last push at the end of the year isn’t for everyone.
This post is NOT an encouragement to further stress yourself out in the Holiday season or hustle for one more “win”. This post is an encouragement to start the habit of keeping promises to yourself. And of course, as a bi-product, become a healthier version of yourself.
Investing in your growth in the last 90 days of the year has loads of benefits but those benefits don’t mean anything if you exhaust, stress, and strain yourself in the process.
If you feel like you have the capacity and stamina, set a small goal and go for it! If you’re feeling tired, worn out and weary, take the last 90 days of this year to rest and get ready to switch up your goal setting process in the New Year.
