Defining your calling is one thing. Figuring out how to answer your calling? That’s a totally different ball game.
Once you have a good idea of what your calling is you’ll have to figure out how to answer it. The key here is to recognize that answering your calling is a process. A conversation between caller and called that ebbs and flows with each season of life.
Before we dive into the practical tips and tricks I’ve prepared for this post, I’d like to remind you that a calling is never a one and done occasion. You won’t land the job, start the business, or take the leap and be done. You will continually answer your calling in various ways throughout each and every season of life.
With that in mind, let’s get to it!
Use Your Gifts & Talents
This is one of the most essential components of answering your calling. We see in the new testament that God gives each and every one of us unique giftings (1 Corinthians 12:5-11). So in order to answer God’s call on our lives, we MUST use these gifts.
We must exercise our talents and use them unto the glory of God in order to effectively answer the call on our lives (1 Peter 10: 4-11). This doesn’t always mean that we will get paid big bucks to walk out our calling but it does mean that we are expressing appreciation for what God has generously given us and that is bound to be blessed my friend.
However you use your gifts, use them for the glory of God and watch what happens.
Do it Scared
The best piece of advice I could give you when it comes to taking action in your calling is to do it scared! Write the book, start the business, announce it to the world BEFORE you have it all figured out.
I could give you a fancy list of action items or journal prompts to work through to prepare you for a life worthy of your calling. Or I could encourage you to get after it! Believe me, the latter is far more impactful than the former.
Identify one action step you can take this week to move closer to your calling!
Point Others to Jesus
In the end, as long as you are pointing others to Jesus you are living a life worthy of your calling. No matter how you chase your calling in the classroom, at a fancy corporate gig, or in the comfort of your own home, make sure that you are using your gifts to ultimately lead others to Jesus.
The most common way to point others to Jesus is through generous gifts or donating skills and services. Think outside of the box on this one. There are a million ways you can make an impact for Christ through your unique calling.
Easier Than You Thought, Isn’t it?
Friend, it is so much easier to answer your calling than we make it out to be. Use your gifts, point others to Jesus, and start taking action before you are ready.
